As the readership of my humble little blog has started to pick up (you like me, you really like me!), I noticed that many of you were checking out my “About” page. While I think everything I included on that page is good for now – though a photo will be forthcoming – I thought I’d pull back the curtain a little more in this post so you guys have a better sense of whom I am and what makes me tick!
For starters, while I am really enjoying blogging, it is not my full-time job. After several years as a government contractor, I recently switched to the non-profit world and now work full-time as a researcher for one of the many think tanks in D.C..
While I have lived in the greater DMV (DC-Maryland-Virginia) area since 2009, I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA. True, I was born in Illinois, but we moved to the ‘Burgh when I was five so I consider myself a Pittsburgher as all of my formative years were spent in the city. In fact, my parents have lived there longer than they’ve lived anywhere else so we’re all kind of Yinzers at this point!
Though I am from Pittsburgh, I chose to go to college about 70 miles south in the great state of West “By God” Virginia. I absolutely loved my time at West Virginia University and am a die-hard Mountaineer, though admittedly my love is really for the football team. What can I say, I come by it naturally – my grandmother got cable back in the day just so she could watch more football on Saturdays and Sundays! Even though I graduated several years ago, Morgantown is still a really special place for me and I highly recommend everyone visit on a football Saturday at least once in his/her lifetime… it can only be described as an experience!
As for some other random little tidbits about me:
- I am an only child, though I try very hard not to act like one and, for the most part, seem to succeed. One of the biggest compliments I’ve gotten has been: “You’re an only child? Really?! I would have never guessed that.”
- While I “embraced the nerd within” a long, long time ago, I recently discovered – through my boyfriend, the Mysterious Mr. C – that I also have what I would call, latent geek-like tendencies. I shouldn’t have been too surprised about this considering the fact that my aunt has blueprints of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) and my mom has a TARDIS piggy bank, but it took me a while to get into the whole superhero/sci-fi thing. (NOTE: I don’t use either term pejoratively, and though there are a ton of different definitions of “geek” and “nerd” out there, for me a nerd has always been someone lost in their books, while geeks have been more focused on their computers).
- Unlike most girls, I shy away from the color pink. While I think it is a perfectly fine color, my favorite hue is orange. It’s just such a happy color to me and I love having orange accessories to wear and accents in our apartment, especially on grey, rainy days. It just seems to help brighten things up!
Alright, I think this covers most things for now, but if you have any specific questions for me, just let me know and I’ll do my best to answer them for you!
