If you’ve been following this blog for awhile, you’ll know that one of the things I have struggled with most is coming up with a consistent posting schedule. First, I was posting on Thursdays and Saturdays, but then I realized that was a lot of content close together and then nothing for the rest of the week. So, I decided to space it out and started posting on Mondays and Thursdays (I think). That then turned into Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays because I thought I could easily handle three posts a week. HA! Maybe if I wasn’t holding down a job with a seemingly 24/7/365 sort of schedule!
After running myself ragged and feeling like I was constantly missing the mark, I decided to take a brief break from posting. I cleaned things up, gave the blog and all of my social media accounts a similar look and feel, and began this year posting on Mondays and Thursdays. So far, that has held up pretty well (minus this week, I know) and I have even added in the “Nerd Alert,” which I post on Saturdays.
But though I’ve got the days of the week figured out, I haven’t been able to come up with a good posting time! Originally, I had been shooting for 9:00 am (though that was more of an arbitrary decision than anything else), but since I often missed that deadline, I decided to go with 12:00 pm because I figured it would give you something to read on your lunch break. I also thought that in my new, slightly slower-paced job with a dedicated lunch hour, I could use the time to finish up the post if need be, and share the link on Facebook and Twitter. Sadly, I learned last week that I can’t access WordPress sites from my work computer, so that put a damper on that! Luckily, I think I’ve figured out a workaround, and should be able to stick with my posts going up on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at noon (with the exception of Federal holidays, of course).
Now, I will admit that I am a bit nervous to share all of this with you because I keep thinking about television shows and how you can usually tell that they are struggling because they constantly get moved into different time slots, each one usually less desirable than the spot that came before it. And I don’t want to think that my blog is struggling – more it’s me trying to figure out how to manage my time and all of the things I want to do/have to do! But, when I created Geeky Musings, I decided early on that I would share some of these behind-the-scenes moments/struggles with you because I thought they might be helpful. So much of what we see out there in the blogosphere are carefully crafted posts and edited photos, and it can be hard to remember that the big-name bloggers had to start somewhere too and likely experienced their own bumps along the way!
