Nerd Alert

As I’m sure you can guess – based on my previous posts – this week has been a bit of a rough one here at GeekyNerdy HQ. I’ve had to burn the candle at both ends, so to speak, and even had to go into the office for a few hours today! (There’s a certain cruel irony about having to work on April Fool’s Day.) So, I decided to just embrace the week’s unofficial theme of “better late than never” and turn it into an official one with today’s Nerd Alert. All of the items below are time-related, and many are things I really wish I could have. Enjoy!  Read More

This week was one of those odd ones for me: The individual days seemed to drag on forever, but the weekend seemed to get here surprisingly soon. It will likely be over just as quickly, especially since I actually have plans! I had brunch this morning with some great girlfriends who I haven’t seen in awhile, have brunch with my cousin tomorrow (who I also haven’t seen in awhile), and the Mysterious Mr. C and I are heading to the theater at some point to see John Wick: Chapter 2. It may not be all that relaxing, but reconnecting with everyone has been just what I needed!  Read More

Every year, usually the week between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, there is a proliferation of articles about making New Year’s resolutions. Then, about a week later, there is a host of stories about how most of us will give up on those resolutions by February. It is a seemingly endless and unbreakable cycle, one that I am certainly guilty of participating in. But not this year!

True, I didn’t have that much of a choice about foregoing my 2017 resolutions, but being laid out with a nasty upper respiratory infection helped me internalize the idea put forth by the ladies behind PowerSheets (which I am also trying out) that there is nothing special about January 1. Read More

Nerd Alert

I’ll be honest, readers, this was a really hard post to put together. With everything that’s been going on in the country lately (and especially over the past 24 hours), blogging about my favorite geekynerdy finds seemed so silly. There were scores of people being detained in airports as I typed and I felt like I should be doing anything but this.

That said, over the past year or so, I’ve realized the importance of self-care; sometimes, you just need to take a break from all of the bad news, shut off your electronic devices, and do something that reenergizes you. So, in that spirit, I decided to focus this Nerd Alert on some things that might help you relax and remember that, as Harvey Dent (paraphrasing Thomas Fuller) told us, “The night is darkest just before the dawn. [And] I promise, the dawn is coming.” Enjoy!  Read More

As you may or may not have noticed, the nerd world celebrated Wonder Woman’s 75th birthday yesterday. While this is technically incorrect (she didn’t appear in comic books until December 1941), the celebration was tied to her appointment as an honorary U.N. ambassador for the empowerment of women and girls. Unsurprisingly, the move sparked a backlash, proving that William Moulton Marston’s superheroine is as controversial as ever.

Though I certainly understand the reasons for the criticism, as a recent Wonder Woman convert, I still wanted this week’s “Nerd Alert” to honor Princess Diana of Themiscyra. As such, all of the links below are Wonder Woman-related. Enjoy!  Read More
