My family was a little late to the Harry Potter party when the books first came out in the late 1990s and I think we got into it right around the time Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban first came out. Interestingly, I was introduced to the Boy Who Lived by my father, who had discovered him through one of his colleagues. The series quickly became a family favorite, with all three of us tearing through the books just as quickly as we could, and then discussing everything that was going on.
Earlier this summer, I decided that – for the first time in nearly 20 years – I would revisit all seven books in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, as well as the eight companion films. My plan was to chronicle my thoughts on the 26th of each month, beginning in June – the actual bookiversary for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
While I was able to stick to that schedule for the firsttwo months, things went off the rails a bit after that and I found myself continually behind. For the past several weeks, however, I have been consumed with the series and am determined to close it out this week! In honor of the occasion, everything in today’s “Nerd Alert” concerns the Boy Who Lived. The next five days will wrap up my revisit posts and then I’ll share a full series debrief on Saturday. It’s a lot, I know, but I hope you enjoy! Continue reading “Nerd Alert”
Whelp, nearly a month has passed between posts – again – and while I have a ready-made list of reasons why, I think the biggest one was simply wrapping my mind around my shifting posting schedule and thinking of the “Nerd Alert” as kicking off the week, as opposed to ending it, like it did when I was posting on Saturdays. Schedules are funny things: Growing up, my weeks always ran from Sunday to Saturday, but a few of the planners I’ve started using make Monday the start of the week, which is fine . . . it just takes a few mental gymnastics to juggle the two at the same time! So, instead of wishing you a good weekend, I will hope that you all have a great week! Continue reading “Nerd Alert”
As I’ve mentioned a few times before on this blog, I was a bit of a latecomer to the whole podcast trend, but now I am definitely onboard the train! While most of my selections concern political news, true crime, and word-nerdyness, some of my favorites are more full of mystery and horror than anything else. There’s the Black Tapes and Lore, which were some of my first forays into the genre, and now I’ve got Deadly Manners and Darkest Night. Well, I had Darkest Night… I binge-listened to both seasons this weekend!Continue reading “Deadly Manners/Darkest Night”
Helloooo readers!! Before I get to our final GeekyNerdy Book Club selection for 2017, I have a quick editorial announcement to make.
After months of repeatedly missing my declared posting dates, I decided that it was time to reevaluate my schedule. In looking at my various have-to-dos, want-to-dos, and wish-to-dos, shifting things over by a day seemed like it would be a little more manageable. So, for October at least (I’ll sort of test things out and see how they go), my posts will be going up on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
