How Do You Do It?

A little over a month ago, when Geeky Musings turned three, I shared some of the lessons I’ve learned since first creating this blog in 2013. But while I’m pretty good on the general, overarching themes of blogging, the day-to-day mechanics of running a site like this and all of its connected social media platforms is still a bit of a challenge. As I have mentioned before, I am not a full-time blogger (though I would totally love to be!) and I get the sense that many of you aren’t either. Because of that, I wanted to reach out to you to see what tips and tricks you’ve found helpful!  Read More

The Importance of Having a Queue, Pt. 2

About a year and a half ago, I first discovered the importance of having an editorial calendar for my Geeky Musings. While I had certainly read posts about maintaining a queue on several of the other blogs that I follow, I didn’t think this site was big enough yet to warrant that, so I flew by the seat of my pants instead. As a result, I was a lot more stressed out and there were several occasions when I missed a post or two because I either didn’t know what to write about or I didn’t allow enough time to read that book, watch that movie, or bake that cake, and then write a review of it.  Read More

Blogger Burnout

Truth be told, I never intended for this week to be a two-post week. Pretty much all of the blogging advice out there says to be regular and consistent with your posting, which is why I try my best to have something new for you to check out every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. I even got up early on Sunday to finally finish Daniel H. Wilson’s Robogenesis, so I could write up a review about it, but once I got to the end, I realized that I just didn’t have anything left in my tank. And since I decided during last year’s cleanup that I would only post things that were blog- or geekynerdy-related (and that I was happy with), I thought it better to ride out the funk and get back to work once it had passed!  Read More

Posting Schedule

If you’ve been following this blog for awhile, you’ll know that one of the things I have struggled with most is coming up with a consistent posting schedule. First, I was posting on Thursdays and Saturdays, but then I realized that was a lot of content close together and then nothing for the rest of the week. So, I decided to space it out and started posting on Mondays and Thursdays (I think). That then turned into Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays because I thought I could easily handle three posts a week. HA! Maybe if I wasn’t holding down a job with a seemingly 24/7/365 sort of schedule! Brain Storms

Okay, okay – maybe the title of this post should be one word, but I think “Brain Storms” just sounds so much cooler than “Brainstorms.” That or I’ve been reading too many superhero books lately. Regardless, it’s my blog and I can do what I want!

If you’ve been following my Geeky Musings for a little while, you’ll know that I’ve been trying to get back into a good posting rhythm since a massive work conference in February threw everything off. While my goal is to have posts up by 9:00 am every Monday and Thursday, I haven’t been able to build up a queue like the one I had in January, which means that sometimes I miss the mark.  Read More
